Mr. Joe Martin was born in 1943 in the Beartown section of McComb, Mississippi. Mr. Martin played a key leadership role in the 1961 student walk-out at McComb's Burglund High School and was arrested and jailed along with over 100 other students.

Mr. Joe Martin passed away shortly after this interview in a tragic house fire on July 29th, 2009.
