Ms. Martin was born in McComb, Mississippi in 1946. She participated in the 1961 student walk-out at McComb's Burglund High School and was arrested and jailed along with over 100 other students. Ms. Martin has been active in the Civil Rights Movement ever since and continues to be active during her retirement.
