Ken Colvin was born on November 28th, 1924 in San Francisco, California. Colvin joined the war effort by enlisting in the United States Army in 1943 and trained as an Army medic. Colvin left for Europe towards the end of the war in January, 1945. He assisted in the liberation of several concentration and labor camps including Ohrdruf, Hemer and Ebensee, a sub-camp of Mauthhausen. His work included aiding the sick inmates of these camps. He was deeply affected by his experiences, and to this day he remains traumatized by the terrors of what he saw during his time in Europe. After the war Colvin returned home to San Francisco. Colvin has dedicated his life to Jewish causes, including educating schoolchildren to the horrors of the Holocaust, and ending all forms of discrimination.
